Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all the main activities shown in the line graph and attempts to make comparisons over the period from 2000 to 2020. An overview is provided in the second sentence, noting the general trends. However, some of the descriptions of specific data points are imprecise, repetitive, or difficult to follow, such as the redundant repetition regarding the film club and the inaccurate reporting of details for amateur dramatics and table tennis. While the general direction of trends is captured, the development lacks precision and contains some minor inaccuracies in reporting the visual data. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement and attempts to use cohesive devices to link ideas, such as 'Overall', 'Initially', and 'Conversely'. However, paragraphing is not utilised effectively, as the entire response is presented as a single dense block of text instead of separating the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Furthermore, referencing and cohesive links are sometimes mechanical or confusing, such as 'In film club, participants fell out slowly till 2010, conversely the trend line rise up', which disrupts the logical flow and clarity of progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'plateau', 'abrupt', and 'boomed'. However, there are frequent word-choice errors, awkward collocations, and misuse of lexical items, such as 'how many numbers of participants involved', 'dramatic experience in trend line', 'its start raised out', and 'Expectationally'. Repetition of phrases like 'participants fell slowly' also limits lexical flexibility. While communication is generally maintained, the frequent inaccuracies constrain the score to Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are frequently marred by grammatical errors. Examples include tense inconsistencies and incorrect verb forms such as 'its start raised out', 'the trend line rise up', 'figure to 2010 and repeat this pattern', and 'the musical performance has the most abrupt changed in it'. Punctuation is basic, and while simple sentences are often clear, the frequent errors in grammar and verb morphology occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
