Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address all parts of the task by reporting on the different activities and their trends over the twenty-year period. An overview is attempted, noting that the film club had the highest number of participants while amateur dramatics experienced a significant decline. However, the overview and body paragraphs contain several inaccurate data citations that contradict the visual data. For instance, the student states that amateur dramatics fell consistently to zero in 2020, whereas the graph indicates it dropped to approximately 6. Similarly, figures for the film club and martial arts contain noticeable inaccuracies. While the main features are touched upon, the lack of data precision and a slightly flawed overview limit the response to Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response shows some logical organisation with an introductory sentence, an overview paragraph, and subsequent detail paragraphs. However, paragraphing is somewhat erratic and the overall progression is disrupted by abrupt transitions and poor referencing. Cohesive devices are used minimally or inaccurately, such as starting a sentence with 'Remaining activities martial arts was stood...', which creates a disjointed reading experience. Transitional phrases linking ideas between sentences are often missing or awkward. These cohesion and referencing issues place the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited range of vocabulary adequate for basic reporting, using terms such as 'participants', 'activities', 'increase', and 'decrease'. However, there are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as 'number of people participated', 'was accounted highest number', and 'the least participants activity'. Spelling and morphological errors ('signicantly' instead of significantly, 'roses' instead of rose) also occur. While the meaning is generally decipherable, the frequent lexical errors and lack of precision restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is quite limited, relying mostly on simple and flawed complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect prepositions, and tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'film club was accounted for 65 number of participants', 'it fall slightly 60', 'table tennis in the beginning was observed lowest but it roses dramatically'). Punctuation is also weak, with missing commas and spaces around punctuation marks. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, this performance meets the criteria for Band 5.0.
