Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and trends of the five activities shown in the line graph. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, which effectively highlights the standout trends, such as the film club remaining the highest and table tennis experiencing significant growth. The data cited are generally accurate and aligned with the provided visual information (e.g., noting that film club participants remained high around 60-65 and table tennis rose significantly after 2010). Key comparisons are made across categories. However, there are minor inaccuracies in exact figures, such as stating musical performances were introduced in 2005 when the graph shows them at zero in 2005 before starting in 2010. Despite this slight misinterpretation, the response presents a clear and well-supported overview of the visual data, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organised into five paragraphs, featuring a clear introduction, an overview, and three body paragraphs detailing specific trends. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the data, with transitional phrases such as 'Overall', 'Likewise', and 'However'. However, some paragraphing choices are slightly disjointed, and referencing can be repetitive or mechanical in places, such as repeatedly starting sentences with 'The number of...'. Furthermore, the pronoun reference in 'there number rose' contains a spelling error ('their') and slightly weakens cohesion. Overall, the arrangement is coherent and easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully employing terms like 'significant rise', 'steady throughout', 'little fluctuation', and 'fell sharply'. However, there are several lexical and spelling errors that detract from the overall precision, such as 'ameteur' instead of 'amateur', 'tables tennis', 'martial art players' instead of participants, and the homophone confusion in 'there number' instead of 'their number'. Despite these occasional errors and spelling slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning adequately, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases. Grammatical control is generally fair, but there are noticeable errors in subject-verb agreement and pluralisation. For instance, the student writes 'participants of film club were remained', 'the number of film club participants were', and 'there number rose substantially'. These errors occasionally cause minor awkwardness, though they do not impede communication. The mix of structures with persistent basic errors points clearly to a Band 6.0 level.
