The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The line graph illustrates changes in the number of participants across five different activities at a social centre in Melbourne, Australia, including the film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis, and musical performance, over the period from 2000 to 2020.

Overall, it is evident that the figures followed varying trends over the given period, with some activities increasing, while others declined or fluctuated. The film club recorded the highest figure over the period, whereas amateur dramatics had the lowest figure. However, amateur dramatics participants decreased by the end of the period.

Looking at the details, the film club remained relatively stable at the beginning and end of the period. Moreover, table tennis stood at approximately 17 participants in 2000 and increased gradually to roughly 20 participants in 2010, and then increased continuously to nearly 53 participants by the end of the period.

In 2000,  amateur dramatics started at around 26 participants, after which it fell dramatically to a level in the region of 5 participants in 2020. Furthermore, martial arts remained relatively stable at the beginning and end of the period. Meanwhile, musical  performance started at 1 participant in 2000. Thereafter, it increased steadily to roughly 18 participants by the end of the period.
