Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the graph, providing an overview and mentioning most categories such as the film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis, and musical performances. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the student states that the film club began at '64%' and rose to '69%', treating absolute numbers as percentages, and misquotes several other figures compared to the visual data. The overview is also rather simplistic. Because of the data misinterpretations and inaccurate units, this response falls under Band 5.0 descriptors for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into three paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor paragraphing and a lack of clear structuring, as all detailed body information is crammed into a single run-on paragraph. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'where as,' and referencing is occasionally confusing. While there is a basic attempt to organise the response logically, the overall cohesion is faulty. This aligns well with the Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'participants,' 'activities,' 'growth,' and 'fluctuating.' However, there are noticeable lexical errors, such as using percentage signs (%) instead of numbers of people, and inappropriate word choices like 'table tennis sport is seen a steady growth' and 'from begining.' Less common vocabulary is attempted with frequent inaccuracy. These issues cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty or ungrammatical, such as in the sentence 'The different activities that has taken part by many participants...' There are numerous grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('film club has,' 'activities that has taken part'), missing articles, and incorrect prepositions ('from begining'). Punctuation is also problematic, with comma splices and stray marks. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
