Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by reporting on the different activities shown in the line graph between 2000 and 2020. However, the student struggles significantly with interpreting the data accurately, frequently using incorrect percentages (e.g., 'rise 65%' and '48% by 2020') which do not reflect the actual number of participants on the graph. An overview is attempted near the end, but the information is muddled and lacks clarity. While the main categories of the graph are mentioned, the ideas are under-developed and poorly supported by the inaccurate data presented, aligning the response with a Band 5 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The essay lacks clear logical organisation and paragraphing. The introduction is immediately followed by a fragmented second sentence ('Overall number of participants, fluctuation rates are given below.'), and the main body is condensed into a single, dense block of text rather than being logically structured by trends or categories. While some basic cohesive devices are attempted (e.g., 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore'), their use is often awkward or mechanical, and referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very limited and often inaccurate, which severely impedes communication. Phrases like 'film cub activity rate rise', 'burgeoning effect bring a more competition', and 'strong empire in sports activity' demonstrate serious lexical inaccuracies and poor collocation. There are also typographical and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'additon' and 'and and'. The student attempts less common vocabulary, but the lack of control over word choice and form keeps this criterion at a Band 5 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The text contains numerous structural errors, missing articles, and awkward phrasing, such as 'This line graph portrays a number of participants... whether including film club...' and 'Juxtaposed a musical performance with the contraction of all others subject sectors indicate steadily increase'. Complex sentence structures are frequently faulty, and punctuation is misused, leading to run-on sentences and fragmented clauses. Errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader in understanding the intended meaning.
