Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making comparisons between the activities over the twenty-year period. An overview is present, highlighting the dominant position of the film club and the upward trajectories of table tennis and musical performances. Key data points are successfully identified and referenced, such as the film club starting around 65 and ending around 65, and table tennis growing significantly from 16 to 54. However, some minor inaccuracies in data reporting occur, such as stating musical performances started in 2005 when the chart shows zero until 2010. Overall, the requirements for Task Achievement are met adequately, demonstrating a clear understanding of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is organized into four distinct paragraphs, providing a logical framework with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific trends. Cohesive devices are employed, including transition markers such as "Overall", "In addition", and "In contrast". However, paragraphing and referencing are sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, the chronological grouping in the third paragraph mixes different activities rather than contrasting them effectively, and cohesion at sentence boundaries occasionally feels disjointed due to grammatical errors. Nevertheless, there is a clear overarching progression from introduction to detailed body points, securing a solid intermediate band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for Task 1, utilizing descriptive verbs and nouns like "proportion", "trend", "climbed up", and "dramatically fell". However, there are frequent lexical errors and typos throughout the text, including "graps" instead of graphs, "perticipans" for participants, "flactuating" for fluctuating, and "deamatics" for dramatics. Less common lexical items are attempted but lack precision or accurate spelling. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey the general message, these persistent spelling and word-choice errors restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like relative clauses and comparative statements. However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples include "film is the accounted largest proportion", "table tennis start with 15", and "amateur deamatics slowly grew up... before dramatically fell". Punctuation is also erratic in places with irregular spacing. While communication is not entirely impeded, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors prevents the response from achieving a higher band score.
