The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The line graph illustrates the number of people participating in five different activities at a social centre in Melbourne between 2000 and 2020.

Overall, most activities saw an increase in participation over the 20-year period, with the film club remaining the most popular throughout. Amateur dramatics was the only activity that experienced a significant decline.

The film club started at around 65 participants and decreased slightly to approximately 60 in 2010. It then recovered and increased moderately, finishing at around 65 participants in 2020.

In 2000, there were 35 participants in the martial arts group, which decreased slightly to 30 in 2005. After that, it rose slightly to around 36 in 2010. It then fluctuated over the next 10 years and finished at approximately 35 participants. Amateur dramatics started with 25 participants and increased slightly to 28 in 2005. However, it then decreased dramatically to just 5 people in 2020.

Table tennis started with 15 participants and remained almost the same over the next 10 years. It then increased drastically to 55 participants in 2020. Musical performances started with no participants and rose notably to around 15 people in 2010. After that, it continued its upward trend and reached approximately 17 participants in 2020.
