Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given line graph illustrates the attendance of players for various plays in a activity centre situated in Melbourne, Australia from the year 2000 to 2020.A glance at the graph reveals that more than 60 participants were present in film club. While, number of players in all others activities changes rapidly over the 20 year period.
The data clearly shows that number of players in martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis and film club face an insignificant change till 2010. However, an improvement is seen in the participants of musical performance in 2010 as they reach to 10 from null. In the year 2015, Film club players are below 70 as they were in start. Amateur dynamic and musical performances contains members between 10 to 15 in 2015. On the other hand, Martial arts and table tennis contributors are more than 30 at that time. At the end year 2020, Film club and martial arts players are same as they started after some rapid change. Table tennis anmnd musical performers increased gradually. Meanwhile, less than 10 people participated in amateur dramatics in the year 2020

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student attempts to address the task by describing the trends shown in the line graph, providing an overview in the introductory paragraph. However, the response contains several inaccuracies and vague generalisations in reporting the data. For instance, the statement that the film club and martial arts players 'are same as they started after some rapid change' is inaccurate, as the film club remained relatively stable and martial arts fluctuated moderately rather than undergoing rapid changes. Furthermore, some data points are misreported or vaguely described, such as claiming musical performances reached 10 from null in 2010 when the actual value was approximately 12. While the main features are touched upon, the lack of precision and some unsupported statements prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is organised into an introduction and two body paragraphs, representing a basic structure for a Task 1 response. However, the logical progression is hindered by abrupt transitions and mechanical cohesive devices, such as 'While,' starting a sentence fragment, and 'At the end year 2020.' Referencing and substitution are sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparisons smoothly. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires better management to ensure a seamless flow of information.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to convey basic information, using terms such as 'participants,' 'attendance,' 'gradually,' and 'contributors.' However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and inappropriate word choices, such as 'players' used for social centre activities like the film club, 'null' instead of zero, and 'Amateur dynamic' instead of amateur dramatics. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, such as 'anmnd,' reflecting a limited ability to handle less common lexical items accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'number of players... face,' 'contributors are more than 30'), preposition errors (e.g., 'in start' instead of 'at the start'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation errors are also present, such as missing full stops or incorrect comma usage. While communication is not entirely impeded, the high frequency of errors places this response firmly in the band 5 range.
