Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the line graph and making relevant comparisons across the five activities. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, which correctly identifies the film club as consistently highest and musical performances as starting at zero. Key trends, such as the dramatic increase in table tennis and the steep decline in amateur dramatics, are accurately captured. While there are some minor inaccuracies in specific numbers (e.g., stating '65 participation' instead of approximately 64, and spelling errors like 'dramtically'), the overall response covers the data well and presents a clear summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with an introductory statement, follows with an overview, and then details specific trends in subsequent paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related ideas, such as grouping the decline of amateur dramatics and the fluctuations of martial arts. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in phrases like 'While, table tennis remined constant before increased dramtically', which lacks proper dependent clause structure. Referencing and cohesive devices are generally functional but lack flexibility.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'fluctuated', 'surge gradually', and 'participation rate'. However, there are notable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'melbourne', 'australia', 'remined', 'dramtically', and 'dramatics'. Word choice and collocations are occasionally awkward, such as '65 participation respectively' and 'stood at 10 participants rate approximately'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing introductory subordinate clauses such as 'While, table tennis remined constant...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several errors, including missing capitalization for proper nouns ('melbourne, australia'), tense and verb form errors ('before increased', 'martial arts rate fluctuated overall period'), and punctuation errors. Complex structures are often faulty. Despite these issues, the meaning remains clear, fitting the Band 5.5 to 6.0 profile, rounded here to 6.0 for a decent mix of sentence structures.
