Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the line graph, providing an adequate overview and making relevant comparisons across the five activities between 2000 and 2020. The key trends are identified, such as the film club remaining the most popular overall, table tennis experiencing a significant increase, and amateur dramatics declining. However, there are minor inaccuracies in reading specific data points, such as stating the film club started at 65 when it was around 64, and the writing cuts off abruptly at the end while discussing musical performances. Despite the incomplete final sentence, the overall reporting covers the main features effectively, earning a band score of 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is arranged coherently with a logical overall progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific trends. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Furthermore', 'whereas', and 'On the other hand', though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is adequate, but the abrupt ending due to running out of text affects the final cohesion. Overall, the organization is clear and easy to follow, supporting a solid band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and functional language to describe trends, such as 'incline', 'decline', 'rebounded', 'flucuate', and 'skyrocketed'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, including 'prefered', 'flim', 'flucuate' (instead of fluctuate), 'dramatic' (instead of dramatics), and 'musicial'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect limitations that prevent the score from reaching a higher band. The vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures throughout the response, incorporating clauses of contrast and time effectively (e.g., 'whereas amateur dramatics had a decline over the period' and 'before it fell sharply'). There are several grammatical errors and typos, such as missing articles ('graph shows that, during 2000 to 2010, flim club...'), tense inconsistencies in the incomplete final sentence ('before it had asignificant rise to 11 in 2010 then it rose s'), and spelling mistakes. These errors rarely impede overall comprehension, though they show a lower level of accuracy in complex forms.
