The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The line graph illustrates the number of members who participated in five different activities at a social centre in Melbourne, Australia, from 2000 to 2020.

Overall, the film club had the highest number of members for most of the period, while table tennis had the lowest initially. The number of people participating in table tennis increased significantly towards the end of the period.

In 2000, the film club was the most popular activity, with about 65 members. This was followed by martial arts, amateur dramatics and table tennis, with approximately 38, 28 and 18 members respectively. The number of participants in amateur dramatics increased to a peak in 2005, before declining gradually to around 9 members by 2020.

Table tennis showed a different trend. Although it started with only 18 members, participation increased considerably after 2010 and continued to rise until 2020. Meanwhile, the musical performances group started in 2005 and its membership increased steadily, reaching about 19 members at the end of the period.

Overall, the figures show different trends among the activities, with film remaining highly popular and table tennis experiencing the most noticeable growth.
