Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover all parts of the task by reporting on the different activities shown in the line graph, providing an overview and mentioning specific data points such as the high participation in the film club and the growth in table tennis. However, there are notable inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the student states that amateur dramatics followed 'only 9 members' at the beginning of 2020, whereas the chart shows around 6 members. Additionally, the overview contains a confusing claim about table tennis having the lowest participants overall when the data clearly shows it grew significantly. The summary is somewhat disjointed and contains minor misreadings of the graph, placing this response at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response lacks clear paragraphing, being presented almost entirely as a single dense block of text, which significantly hinders readability and logical progression. While the student attempts to link ideas using transitional phrases such as 'Overall,' 'At the begining of the era,' and 'By contrast,' the overall organisation is faulty. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as abrupt shifts between different activities without smooth transitional framing. The progression of ideas becomes muddled towards the end, and the concluding sentence feels disconnected from the rest of the text. These features align with the Band 5.0 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited range of vocabulary, relying heavily on basic terms and repetitive structures (e.g., 'number of members', 'increased', 'peopale'). There are several noticeable spelling errors throughout the response, including 'participates' instead of 'participate', 'Austrailia', 'Higest', 'begining', 'peopale', 'engadged', 'material', 'ameteur', 'teble', 'interest', 'amateure', and 'performences'. Word choice and collocations are frequently unnatural, such as 'joined for the table tennis' and 'interact with self-confident activities'. These frequent lexical errors and limited control restrict the vocabulary score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and flawed complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors in tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'who participates for the different' instead of 'participating in', 'for the material arts', and 'members who were prefer to do'. Punctuation is also weak, particularly the lack of a terminal full stop at the very end of the text. Because errors occur consistently and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, this performance corresponds to a Band 5.0 for Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
