Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student successfully covers all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the chart, including general trends and specific comparisons. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, highlighting the Film club as the most popular activity and the dramatic rise of Table tennis. Data points are generally reported accurately, such as the Film club starting at approximately 64 participants and Table tennis increasing significantly. However, there are some minor data misinterpretations, such as stating that there were no participants in Musical performance in 2000 (which is accurate, but the text states it started in 2005 while the chart shows it began in 2010), and minor inaccuracies in figures. Overall, the content fulfills the requirements of Task 1 well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a clear overall progression and is divided into logical paragraphs, separating the introduction, overview, and detailed body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'By contrast', and 'However', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing and paragraphing are generally adequate, but there are punctuation and spacing issues that occasionally disrupt the smooth flow of reading, such as spaces before commas and periods. Despite these minor cohesive flaws, the information is arranged coherently enough to follow the writer's comparisons easily.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'proportion', 'gradual decline', 'rapid growth', and 'osscillate'. However, there are noticeable word choice and word formation errors throughout the text, such as 'participants' used as a verb ('who participants in'), 'heighest' instead of highest, 'material arts' instead of martial arts, and 'significantly growth' instead of significant growth. Spelling mistakes also occur, such as 'osscillate'. These errors show limited control over less common vocabulary, placing this criterion at a Band 5.5 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses ('who participants in various event') and comparative structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that occasionally cause strain for the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Film club consistently attracted... despite it experienced'), word class errors ('which was 16' referring to a number of participants, and 'to achieve roughly 18 to 54' lacking clear grammatical connection), and incorrect prepositions or articles. Punctuation errors, particularly erratic spacing around commas and periods, are also prevalent throughout the response.
