Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by reporting information about different activities from the line graph, but the selection and reporting of main features is weak and inaccurate in places. For example, the student states there were 65 participants in the film club over two decades rather than describing its overall trend and peak figures, and several numbers are misquoted (such as table tennis in 2000). While an overview is attempted at the beginning of the second paragraph and the conclusion, it lacks precision and fails to clearly contrast the major trends, such as the dramatic rise of table tennis versus the decline of amateur dramatics. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into an introduction, a body paragraph, and a conclusion, showing some basic organisation. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by disjointed sentences and poor referencing. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and repetitive manner, such as repeatedly using phrases like 'has seen an upward trend' and 'has seen increasing and decreasing value'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the main body paragraph is dense and crams multiple disparate trends together without clear internal structuring or transition markers, making the progression difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple verbs and nouns such as 'seen', 'high', and 'trend'. There are several noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'stands high among different kind of activities' and 'the film club withstand high'. Spelling errors also occur, including 'Austrailia', 'perfomances', and 'paticipate'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with attempts at less common words often resulting in awkward or inaccurate phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'Whee there was a low trend', 'The musical perfomances was started', and 'This number increase in from mid of 2010'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods throughout the text. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
