Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the line graph, identifying the Film Club as having high participation and noting trends for other activities such as Table Tennis and Musical Performances. However, the data reporting is frequently inaccurate, confused, and imprecise. For instance, the writer states that Film club stood at approximately '65%' rather than 64 participants, and misinterprets the start of Musical Performances in 2000 as 0%. Furthermore, many sentences are extremely vague or incoherent regarding the data trends, such as 'martial arts is flacturate is fell into teh number of participants'. Because the overview lacks clarity and the data is poorly and inaccurately reported throughout, the response falls within the Band 4 descriptor for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, but the logical organisation and overall progression are severely compromised by poor sentence structure and lack of coherent linking. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, resulting in fragmented and disjointed reading. For example, transitional phrases like 'from the other number of participants' and 'eventually reaching flaturated intabel tennis' fail to establish clear relationships between ideas. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow which data point or activity is being discussed. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails. This corresponds to a Band 4 level for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and heavily repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'illustates', 'participents', 'diffrent', 'activites', 'cente', 'flacturate', and 'flaturated'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items related to data trends, but misuse is widespread (e.g., using 'flaturate', 'peek', and 'decrements' as verbs). Word choices are frequently inaccurate and impede the reader's understanding. While basic terms like 'numbers', 'year', and 'participants' are understood, the severe limitations in control, spelling, and precision place this response firmly at Band 4 for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most attempts at complex sentences result in severe errors and ungrammatical constructions, such as 'the figure for film club is rose to 2000 to 2020' and 'there in not increment in the year'. Punctuation and capitalization are largely ignored or misused throughout the text (e.g., lowercase letters at the start of sentences and names). Frequent errors in verb tense, voice, and subject-verb agreement distort meaning and cause significant difficulty for the reader. This performance aligns with the Band 4 descriptors.
