The graph illustrates the change in number of participants taking part in various activities occured in a social centre of an Australian city in year between 2000 and 2020.

Overall, the Film club was the most joined activity from 2000 to 2020. The members of Martial arts fluctuated. Meanwhile, table tennis and Musical performances catch the interest of people with time. However, the number of participants joining Amateur dramatics were significantly reduced.

In year 2000, around 65 members joined the film club. This number slightly reduced to 60 in 2010 but increased to 70 in 2020. The number of participants joined the Martial arts were changed on and off from approximately 35 to 40 throughout the period. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student covers all parts of the task well, providing an overview of the main trends and reporting key data points. The general trends are correctly identified, such as the Film club remaining the most popular activity and Table tennis experiencing significant growth. However, there are minor inaccuracies in some of the specific figures reported compared to the visual data (for instance, stating that Musical performances started at 0 but then citing approximately 15 in 2010 when the actual figure is closer to 12). Despite these slight data reading discrepancies, the overall response successfully fulfills the requirements of Task 1 by selecting and reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response is organized logically into four paragraphs, following a standard introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs format. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'Overall,' 'Meanwhile,' 'However,' and 'At the beginning of the period.' Progression is generally clear throughout the text, and referencing is mostly effective. However, paragraphing could be slightly more refined, and some transitional phrases feel a bit mechanical. Overall arrangement and logical sequencing are clear enough to ensure good readability and a coherent structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'fluctuated,' 'significantly reduced,' and 'dramatic reduction.' However, there are some noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'most joined activity' instead of 'most popular activity,' 'catch the interest' instead of 'gained popularity,' and spelling/form errors like 'occured' and 'intrested.' While these lexical slips do not impede communication, they reflect a Band 6 level where vocabulary control is sometimes imprecise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including passive-like structures and subordinate clauses introduced by time markers. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as 'taking part in various activities occured in' (incorrect relative clause/participle), 'The members of Martial arts' (confusion between activity and participants), and 'number of participants joining... were changed' (subject-verb agreement error with 'number' taking a plural verb). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical accuracy is inconsistent, placing this response firmly in the Band 6 category.
