Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address all parts of the task by reporting on several activities and trends over the twenty-year period. An overview is attempted, identifying the film club as having the highest figures. However, the response contains numerous inaccuracies and misreadings of the data. For instance, the student states that martial arts started at '45 approx in 2000' whereas the chart shows it at approximately 36. Similarly, musical performances are described as starting from zero in 2005, but reaching '10 contestants', which misinterprets the metric of participants. The details regarding trends and specific years are often confused, leading to an underdeveloped representation of the main features and comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs for individual activities. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor sequencing and confusing transitions. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as 'Additionally' and 'afterwards there was a sudden change occured', which makes the flow mechanical. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the internal organisation within paragraphs fails to effectively guide the reader through the comparative trends shown in the graph.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with frequent word choice and spelling errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples of non-standard usage and misspellings include 'perticular', 'Melbouren', 'member' instead of members, 'rapadely inclined', 'declied', 'evantually', and 'Amateure'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary ('fluctuating', 'surged', 'escalated'), inaccuracies in collocation and form prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak throughout the text. There are numerous grammatical errors, including missing auxiliary verbs ('film club is having highest number', 'Musical performance were started'), incorrect prepositions, and faulty tense usage ('that number remains stable till 2020'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences joined incorrectly by commas (e.g., 'Another activity called table tennis almost had 18 members in 2000, this number slightly increased...'). These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader.
