Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address all parts of the prompt by identifying main trends and specific data points for the given period. An overview is present, noting the upward trend in the film club and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the response contains several inaccuracies in reading the data. For instance, the student states that amateur dramatics activists rose significantly in the 2000-2005 period, whereas the graph shows an increase from 26 to 28 (a very minor rise) followed by a continuous decrease. Similarly, the summary of 2010 figures and subsequent trends contains confusions. Because of these factual inaccuracies and a lack of clear comparison in places, the response falls into the Band 5 category.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into paragraphs, but the overall organisation lacks a clear logical progression. The introduction is followed by an overview that is somewhat clunky, and the body paragraphs jump between years and categories without a smooth cohesive thread. Cohesive devices are either missing or used mechanically (e.g., repeating 'In 2000', 'In 2010'). Referencing and transitions between sentences are weak, causing the reader to struggle in following the chronological development of the data. Paragraphing is attempted but internal cohesion is faulty. This aligns with Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors. Examples of spelling and grammatical slips include 'acitivities', 'drmatically', 'tannis', and 'decresed'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'upward trend' and 'significant', but general control is limited. There are noticeable errors that sometimes impede communication or make phrases unnatural, such as 'show a significant rose trend' instead of 'showed a significant upward trend'. This performance corresponds to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex or compound structures frequently contain grammatical errors, such as 'The line graph illustrates the information about on the numbers' (preposition error) and 'Musical performances were starting at 2005 at show a significant rose trend' (tense and preposition errors). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing full stops and capitalisation issues. Frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5 criteria.
