The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given line graph illustraing the numbers of pariticipants in five different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia, between 2000 and 2020.

Overall, the film club remained the most popular activity throught the period, despite a slight decline in the first decades.By contrast. amateur dramatics experienced a substantial downward trend and had the fewest pariticipants by 2020.Table tennis recorded the most pronounced growth, while musical performances also gained pariticipants after remainning at lowest.

In 2000, the film club attracted approximately 64 pariticipants, making it considerably more popular than the other activities.Its figure fell gradually to 60 in 2010, before recovering steadily to around 66 by 2020. Participation in martial arts, meanwhile fluctuated within a relatively narrow range. It stood at 36 participate n 2000, decline to 32 in 2005, and then peaked at 38 in 2010. After falling to approximately 34 in 2015, it returned to 36 in 2020, the same level as at the beginning of the period.

The remaining activites showed more substantial changes. Amateur dramatics rose marginally from about 27 participants in 2000 to 28 in 2005, but this was followed by a continuous decline.Its participants dropped to 20 in 2010, then to 14 in 2015, before reaching just 6 participants in 2020. In sharp contrast, table tennis followed a strong upward trend at around 16 participants, it increased to 20 in 2005 and 2010, before climbing sharply to 36 in 2015 and approximately 54 by 2020.

Finally, musical performances had no participants in either 2000 or 2005. However, participation began to increase thereafter, reaching 12 in 2010, 16 in 2015, and approximately 18 in 2020. Thus, although it remained one of the less popular activities, it recorded a steady increase over the latter half of the period.
