Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student covers all parts of the task by reporting the main trends and making relevant comparisons across the five activities. An overview is successfully provided in the second paragraph, capturing the overall trajectory of the key categories. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, the student states that martial arts started with 27 members in 2000, whereas the graph indicates 36. Despite minor errors in specific figures, the main features of the line graph—such as the dominance of the film club and the dramatic reversal between table tennis and amateur dramatics—are adequately addressed and supported with data points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is organised into four paragraphs, following a logical structure with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing specific trends. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall,' 'In 2000,' and 'where in early 2000,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or awkward, like 'by the time, people decline their interest.' Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, overview, and detailed body points. Overall arrangement is coherent, but referencing and logical flow could be smoother to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'steady growth,' 'suddenly popularity,' and 'declining order.' However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'volunteers in social centre which settled in melborurne' instead of 'situated in Melbourne,' and spelling and capitalization issues (e.g., 'melborurne,' starting sentences with lowercase letters). Furthermore, some expressions are unnatural, such as 'gain sudden popularity' and 'show increase order.' The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message, but inaccuracies restrict it to Band 5.5 or 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses ('which settled in melborurne') and comparative structures. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are frequent punctuation and capitalisation errors (e.g., missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns like Melbourne). Errors also appear in verb tenses and agreement, such as 'people decline their interest' instead of 'declined,' and 'there were more than 60 participants went film club' instead of 'who went to the film club.' These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
