IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The line chart provide information about five categories of participants for various activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period between 2000 and 2020.

Overall, film club remained largest figure through out the period, whereas Amateur dramatics fell dramatically and stood at smallest proportion in the final year. However, martial arts fluctuated through out the period of time.

Looking first at the largest categories, film club participants stood at nearly 65 in 2000 and fell slightly to nearly 59 in 2010, before recovering to approximately 67 in the final year. Followed by table tennis, it slightly increased from approximately 16 participants to 20 between 2000 and 2005. Furthermore, its participants rose significantly to nearly 52 by 2020. Martial arts participants, by contrast, stood at nearly 38 in 2000 and fluctuated throughout the period. But,in the final year martial arts nearly stood at it's intial postion where it started to 38 participants.

Turning to remaining categories, amateur dramatics represented 25 participants in 2000 and it rose slightly to nearly 29 in 2005. Thereafter, it fell sharply to approximately 7 participants in 2020. Musical performances remained unchanged until 2005. Thereafter, it rose substantially from 0 to 15 participants by 2020.
