Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features, trends, and comparisons of the given line graph over the twenty-year period. An appropriate overview is provided, capturing the overall trends such as the stability of the film club and martial arts, the dramatic growth in musical performances and table tennis, and the downward trend in amateur dramatics. Key data points are accurately cited from the visual data, such as the peak of the film club at nearly 66 in 2020 and the rise of table tennis to 54. The ideas are relevant and well supported with data. Minor inaccuracies in reading specific figures do not detract from the overall clear reporting, meeting the criteria for a solid band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression from introduction to overview, followed by detailed body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related categories. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as "Overall," "Looking at the details," and "In stark contrast." However, some cohesive links and transitional phrases are awkward or mechanically used, such as "However in first some oscillation in the figure," which disrupts the natural flow. Referencing is mostly clear, but occasional clunky transitions prevent the essay from achieving a higher band score.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as "fluctuated," "dramatic growth," "downward trend," and "plunged." However, there are noticeable word choice and spelling errors throughout the response, such as "illustrates presents" instead of "presents information," "participent" instead of "participant," "peah" instead of "peak," and "destipe" instead of "despite." Additionally, some phrases are unidiomatic or grammatically awkward, such as "did not excited" instead of "did not exist." These lexical errors occasionally impede comprehension, placing the response firmly in the band 6.0 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like subordinate clauses and comparative constructions. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and word formation, such as "martial art and film club participants fluctuated, but remain same" (tense mismatch), "amateur dramatic was the only witnessed" (faulty passive/active structure), and "amateur dramatic show a initial margin rise" (tense and adjective-noun form errors). While these errors do not completely obscure meaning, they occur regularly enough to prevent the writing from reaching a higher band level.
