Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features and trends of the provided graph, but it contains several inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, the student states that the film club started at around 65 in 2000 and increased to 68 in 2020, whereas the actual figures show minor fluctuations around 64. Similarly, the claim that musical performance increased by '19 times' is factually incorrect, as it rose from 0 to 18 participants. An overview is attempted, but it is poorly expressed and contains grammatical interference. While the response identifies general upward and downward trends, the lack of data precision and flawed overview place it firmly at Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for rising and falling trends. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by repetitive phrasing and weak cohesive devices. Phrases like 'Same as the result of flim club' and 'In contrast' are used mechanically or awkwardly. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow lacks the flexibility expected at higher bands. Paragraphing is present and logically structured, but the internal cohesion requires improvement, justifying a Band 5.5 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a limited and repetitive range of vocabulary with frequent lexical and spelling errors. Words like 'flim' (film), 'insrease' (increase), 'perforamce' (performance), 'drematics' (dramatics), and 'melbourn' (Melbourne) demonstrate weak control over basic spelling. Collocations and word choices are often unnatural, such as 'numerical figures of participants' and 'data of participants is least as compare to other activities'. Although the vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic subject matter, the noticeable errors and lack of sophisticated phrasing restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are persistent errors in tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'the trend of participating in film club is significantly rose', 'was fluctuate', and 'players were participants on amateur drematics'. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing spaces after commas and uncapitalised proper nouns. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 5 performance.
