Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features, trends, and making relevant comparisons across the categories. The overview accurately highlights the dominant position of the film club and the contrasting trends of table tennis and amateur dramatics. Data points are appropriately selected and cited, such as table tennis increasing from nearly 15 to 55 and musical performances starting at zero. Although there are some minor spelling slips in activity names like 'Ameture dramatics', the overall task fulfilment aligns well with Band 7 descriptors as all requirements are addressed clearly with good supporting data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction and an overall summary provided in the second sentence. Progression is generally maintained throughout the body paragraphs using cohesive devices and transitional phrases such as 'Furthermore', 'By contrast', and 'Among all the activities'. Paragraphing is utilized, though grouping all body sentences into a tighter paragraph structure could improve flow. Referencing is mostly clear, though some mechanical transitions prevent the score from reaching higher bands. Cohesion is adequate and supports a coherent overall arrangement.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully employing words and phrases such as 'upward trend', 'fluctuations', 'dramaticaly', and 'maintaining'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('diffrent', 'consistant', 'Ameture', 'whithin', 'heighest') and some word choice or morphological inaccuracies. Less common items are attempted with some awareness of style and collocation, but these frequent minor slips place the lexical performance firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and comparative structures. Grammatical control is generally fair, though several errors occur, such as 'at social centre at Melbourne' (preposition error), 'have the constant upward trend' (tense/article inconsistency), and punctuation lapses around sentence boundaries. While these errors do not impede communication, they demonstrate a mix of error-free sentences alongside frequent minor inaccuracies, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.
