Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to cover main features of the graph, such as identifying the film club as the most popular activity and mentioning musical performances and table tennis. However, the report suffers from significant inaccuracies in reading the data, such as stating there were 27 participants in amateur dramatics in 2000 (the chart shows around 26) and making vague, ungrammatical assertions about percentages and fractions. Furthermore, the response falls well short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 125 words. Because of the under-length penalty and the imprecise data reporting, the task achievement is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The organization of the text is severely hampered by a lack of proper punctuation, capitalization, and paragraphing. The response consists mostly of run-on sentences with virtually no periods separating distinct thoughts. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, leading to a confusing and disjointed progression of ideas. Although an attempt is made to provide an overall summary at the end, the lack of cohesive control and clear paragraph structure prevents the essay from achieving a higher band score.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is extremely basic and repetitive, relying on words like 'participate', 'activity', 'most', and 'least'. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'illustrate' instead of 'illustrates', 'te' instead of 'the', 'melbourne', 'durin', 'perido', 'incresed', 'praticipated', and 'perfromed'. These errors, combined with incorrect word forms (e.g., using 'participate' as a noun instead of 'participants'), restrict the range of vocabulary and frequently impede understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The text lacks basic punctuation and capitalization, and sentence structures are poorly formed and often incomplete. There are severe subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'In the year 2000 there are 27 participate'. Tense usage is also problematic, shifting incorrectly between past and present. Complex structures are attempted clumsily, and frequent errors distort the meaning, causing considerable difficulty for the reader.
