Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five activities shown in the line graph. An overview is provided, highlighting the general trends such as the film club remaining the most popular and the contrasting trajectories of amateur dramatics and table tennis. Key data points are cited to support the descriptions, such as the film club starting around 64 and reaching 66, and table tennis growing significantly to 54. While there are a few minor inaccuracies in data reporting (for instance, stating that musical performances started in the first five years when the graph shows zero until 2010), the response adequately addresses the prompt and meets the criteria for Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response is arranged into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs detailing specific trends. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "Overall," "In the beginning," and "On the other hand." However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive in structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed body paragraphs, contributing to a coherent overall arrangement that places this criterion comfortably at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as "fluctuation," "dramatically," and "stable." However, there are noticeable spelling errors ("sligghltly" instead of slightly, "stedily" instead of steadily) and occasional awkward word choices or collocations, such as "experienced up and down within specific range." Despite these limitations, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like subordinate clauses and time markers (e.g., "While the film club had...", "Between 2010 and 2020 it increased..."). There are several grammatical errors present, such as missing articles ("film club had the highest participants", "followed downward trend") and prepositions, along with awkward phrasing like "reached at peak of 55 participants." Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the basic meaning remains clear, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
