Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features, trends, and comparisons from the graph. An effective overview is provided, highlighting the film club as the most popular activity, table tennis as the fastest growing, and amateur dramatics as the only declining one. Data points are accurately cited, such as the film club starting around 64 and table tennis reaching 54 by 2020. Minor inaccuracies in data reading (e.g., writing 'reaching to a low of roughly 7 participants' instead of 6, or 'climbing to a low' which is contradictory phrasing) are present, but overall the response satisfies the requirements well, meriting a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with an introductory paragraph, followed by a clear overview, and subsequent body paragraphs that group data logically by activity trends. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Conversely', 'Looking at the details', and 'In stark contrast' are used effectively to guide the reader through the comparisons. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the graph. Referencing is mostly clear, though some minor mechanical cohesion issues and typos slightly disrupt the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient and flexible range of vocabulary suited to academic report writing, using terms such as 'flactuated', 'exponentially', 'relativily', and 'plunged'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word choice errors ('flactuated' for fluctuated, 'Ameateur', 'tannis', 'expereienced', 'relativily', 'hpvering arroung', 'subsequantly', 'plinged', and the unusual phrasing 'climbing to a low'). These errors indicate a lack of precision, preventing the lexical score from reaching higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer attempts a good variety of complex sentence structures, incorporating subordinate clauses and participial phrases successfully. There are frequent error-free sentences, demonstrating a good level of grammatical control. However, persistent minor spelling and typographical errors, alongside occasional awkward phrasing (e.g., 'was only activity that witnessed', 'over the next 155 years' instead of 15 years), prevent a higher band, though these errors do not impede communication.
