Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by reporting information from the line graph, including references to the film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis, and musical performances. However, the response suffers from severe limitations in task fulfillment. The overview is extremely weak and confusing, stating 'they are included five number of participants', which fails to present a clear summary of main trends or overall patterns. Furthermore, the use of percentages instead of raw participant numbers throughout the text demonstrates a misunderstanding of the data units. Key features, such as the dramatic rise of table tennis and the decline of amateur dramatics, are mentioned, but the description is obscured by poor phrasing and inaccurate data reporting. This performance aligns with Band 4 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The organizational structure of the response is very weak. While the writer attempts to divide the text into paragraphs, the ideas within and between sentences lack clear logical sequencing and progression. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or used inappropriately, such as the repetitive use of 'while' and 'is' to link clauses awkwardly. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which data points correspond to which years and activities. There is no clear overall progression of information, which severely disrupts the flow of the text. This corresponds to a Band 4 level.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple verbs like 'is', 'had', and 'increased' or 'decreased'. There are numerous lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'showa' instead of 'shows', 'soiacal centre' instead of 'social centre', and the misuse of percentages ('65 percent') to describe participant numbers. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision, and spelling errors ('incresed') further strain the reader's comprehension. These characteristics place the lexical resource firmly at Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical structure of the writing is heavily flawed. There is a very limited range of structures, with almost all sentences exhibiting major structural errors, such as missing subjects, incorrect verb tenses, and fractured clauses (e.g., 'In the first ,film club hand the number of participants in 2000 is 65 percent and decreased the 2005 to 2010...'). Punctuation and word order are erratic throughout the response. Grammatical errors are so frequent that they constantly impede communication and distort the intended meaning, matching the criteria for Band 4.
