Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student successfully covers all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of the trends and reporting the main features of the five activities shown in the line graph. The response highlights the overall dominance of the film club, the dramatic upward trend in table tennis, and the steady decline in amateur dramatics. Comparisons are made appropriately, such as contrasting table tennis and amateur dramatics in 2010. While some minor data points could be expanded further, the key trends are accurately identified and supported with figures from the graph, meeting the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response is organized into clear paragraphs, starting with an introductory statement, followed by general trends and specific body paragraphs detailing individual activities. Cohesive devices such as 'While', 'Moreover', and time markers like 'From 2005 to 2010' are used to connect ideas. However, paragraphing and logical progression could be smoother, and some transitions feel slightly mechanical (e.g., abrupt shifts between sentences in the second paragraph). Overall, the information is presented in a coherent sequence with adequate referencing throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including terms such as 'participants', 'fluctuated', 'engaged', and 'shot up'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('considarable') and minor word-form or collocation inaccuracies ('each an every activity maintains', 'number of tennis players'). While the writer attempts less common vocabulary, control over these items is inconsistent, and basic typos or awkward phrasing prevent the lexical score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'While table tennis players were less in 2010 than in the amateur dramatics, it was higher after 2010.' There are several grammatical errors and awkward structures, notably tense and verb form inconsistencies ('each an every activity maintains', 'fluctuation of the data was started', 'number of participants... was remains', 'were decreased', 'were fluctuated', 'it exceed'). These errors occasionally cause mild disruption, but communication is not impeded.
