Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The candidate successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features, trends, and making relevant comparisons across the five activities. The overview clearly highlights the most popular activity (film club), the most significant growth (table tennis), and the sharpest decline (amateur dramatics). Key figures from the graph, such as the starting and ending points for table tennis and film club, are accurately cited and supported with data. Minor typos like 'abut' and 'aprticipants' do not detract from the clear and well-structured presentation of data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with an introductory statement and an overview paragraph, followed by well-sequenced body paragraphs discussing specific trends. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related activities. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well, such as 'In 2000', 'compared to', 'and then it rose', and 'In comparison', ensuring smooth transitions between sentences and ideas, although some connections could be slightly more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task. Less common lexical items and descriptive phrases such as 'drastic decline', 'rose drastically', and 'fluctuated' are used effectively. While there are a few minor spelling slips ('abut' for about, 'matial' for martial, 'aprticipants' for participants, 'coparison' for comparison), they do not impede communication and the writer successfully conveys precise statistical information.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing features a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including comparative clauses and time-dependent clauses (e.g., 'Table tennis participation increased slightly from 16 participants in 2000 to around 20 in 2010 and then it rose drastically...'). There are occasional grammatical slip-ups, such as tense inconsistency ('Table tennis shows' in the second paragraph contrasted with past tense elsewhere), but the majority of sentences are accurate and meaning is easily understood.
