Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The student covers all parts of the task well, providing a clear overview and highlighting key trends and comparisons across the given 20-year period. The main features are accurately identified, such as the film club remaining the most popular activity throughout and table tennis experiencing a significant surge. Specific data points from the chart, such as the initial and final figures for amateur dramatics and musical performances, are cited correctly and without major discrepancies. The response satisfies all requirements for Task Achievement at a high level, presenting a well-developed summary grounded directly in the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The response is logically organized with a clear progression from an introductory statement to an effective overall summary and well-structured body paragraphs detailing specific activities. Cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'by contrast', and 'before increasing sharply' are used naturally and appropriately to connect ideas. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and effectively, separating the overview and individual data points logically. Information and ideas flow smoothly from sentence to sentence without awkward transitions, ensuring the reader can easily follow the comparisons being made.

Lexical Resource: Band 7.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient and flexible range of vocabulary suited to describing statistical data and trends, such as 'declined considerably', 'fluctuated slightly', and 'increased sharply'. Less common lexical items are used with good awareness of style and collocation (e.g., 'participation in table tennis', 'initial increase'). There are very few lexical inaccuracies, and word choices are generally precise and natural. Spelling and word formation are accurate throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5

The response exhibits a good variety of complex sentence structures, including subordinate clauses and temporal phrases (e.g., 'while participation in amateur dramatics declined considerably', 'before rising to 64 in 2015'). The majority of sentences are error-free, demonstrating strong control over grammar and punctuation. There are only occasional minor slips or structural awkwardnesses, but these do not impede communication or strain the reader. Verb tenses are used consistently and correctly to reflect past trends.
