Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview and reporting the main features with some comparisons, such as noting that the film club 'top the chart' while amateur dramatics 'rapidly decline'. However, some ideas are under-developed or inadequately supported, and key features are sometimes imprecise. For instance, the data points for musical performances and table tennis are inaccurately described using millions instead of participants, and some trends are generalised without sufficient clarity. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to select and report data more accurately, ensure all prominent trends are clearly supported with correct units, and provide a fully developed overview that covers all main trajectories without inaccuracies.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the answer into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, with awkward transitions like 'Moving ahead' and confusing pronoun referencing, particularly in the fourth paragraph where the description of amateur dramatics and table tennis becomes entangled ('on one side table tennis... on other side it was...'). Paragraphing is present, but internal logical progression is occasionally disrupted by confusing sentence ordering and vague connectors. To improve, the writer should use clearer logical relationships between sentences and ensure that referencing words clearly point to their intended subjects.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to attempt less common items and describe trends, such as 'rapidly decline', 'remain constant', and 'sharply rose'. However, there is a noticeable presence of spelling mistakes ('neraly', 'acticities', 'derceased', 'oppsite'), word choice errors ('most growing action'), and inappropriate units ('15 million' instead of participants). These lexical inaccuracies and misuses of word forms reflect limitations typical of this level. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire with accurate collocations, eliminate spelling errors, and use precise vocabulary suited to data reporting without confusing real-world scales.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'The line graph illustrate', 'was the action which was started', and 'initial at 25 milllion than after a small dip'. Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent, leading to run-on sentences and missing elements that require effort from the reader to decipher. To progress to the next level, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain strict control over basic grammatical agreements, tense consistency, and sentence boundaries.
