Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the given period. An overview is provided, highlighting the film club as the most popular activity and noting the overall shifts in participation, such as the rise of table tennis and the decline of amateur dramatics. Key data points are cited to support the trends, fulfilling the requirements for a higher band. However, some aspects are slightly under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies in specific figures—for instance, stating that the film club accounted 'at 65' or that martial arts settled on 35—which keeps the score at a balanced mid-level. The general trajectory of each activity is captured, but tighter precision in reporting exact values would elevate this section further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical progression through distinct paragraphs. The introduction successfully paraphrases the prompt, and the body paragraphs are structured by grouping activities together. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. The use of transitional markers and connectors—such as 'Whereas', 'Then', 'Moreover', and 'furthermore'—can feel slightly forced or awkward within sentences. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'before it musical performances was the least activity taken by individual', which disrupts the smooth flow of ideas. To reach the next level, the writer needs to employ cohesive devices more naturally and ensure smoother transitions between sentences and clauses.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'fluctuation', 'steady trend', 'gradual growth', and 'dramatic growth'. There are, however, noticeable word choice and word form errors that occasionally surface, such as using 'highest activity' instead of 'most popular activity', or 'remained dominated' instead of 'remained dominant'. Spelling is generally acceptable, and communication is not impeded by lexical slips. To achieve a higher band, the student should aim for greater precision in word choice, better control over collocations, and a wider variety of vocabulary related to data trends and changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple and attempted complex sentences that frequently contain errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'The line graph illustrate' instead of 'illustrates', and incorrect prepositional or clausal integration in sentences like 'and from various vary throughout years it finally settle on 35'. Other errors include missing articles ('a film club activity showed steady trend') and awkward relative clauses ('amateur dramatics which increase 25 to 29'). These frequent errors in grammar, tense usage, and sentence architecture place the response firmly in this category, as they occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent smoother delivery.
