Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response presents an overview with information selected from the graph, though some parts of the task are handled unevenly. While the main trends are identified, such as the film club remaining popular and table tennis experiencing a surge, some of the specific data points contain inaccuracies or are missing. For instance, the film club data is reported with minor variations from the visual data, and the response cuts off abruptly at the end, leaving the description of table tennis incomplete. Furthermore, ideas could be extended more thoroughly to fully satisfy all requirements of a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical organisation, making use of introductory and transitional phrases such as "Overall," "Turning to details," and "Moving to other activities." Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or faulty, and the abrupt termination of the response affects the overall progression and logical flow of the final section.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, with successful attempts at less common items such as "dramatic surge," "substantial decline," and "minor fluctuations." However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including "maintined," "popularuty," "partyicipants," "participsnts," "signifiucantly," "fro," "particpiants," and "beacme." While these errors do not completely impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempts at more complex comparative and temporal clauses, such as "whereas the amateur dramatics dropped considerably..." There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as unnecessary commas or preposition misuse in phrases like "till 2005" and "in the year 2000" (used twice in close succession). These errors are occasional and rarely impede communication, allowing the response to sit comfortably at this level.
