Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, as some information and trends are missing, and the data is occasionally misinterpreted or generalized inaccurately. For example, the student states that Film club 'started at near 65 in 2000 and remained close in 2020,' which misses key fluctuations, and claims that Musical performances 'had no major change in starting 5 years' when the data shows zero participants until 2010. While an overview is attempted at the end by mentioning that film club and table tennis got the highest numbers, the selection and reporting of main features lack clarity and precision. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to select the most significant trends more accurately, provide a clearer overall summary, and avoid inaccurate data reporting.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The writing shows some organization, but there is no clear overall progression, and the text is presented in a single, block-like paragraph or poorly structured sections. Cohesive devices are used minimally and somewhat inaccurately, such as the repetitive use of 'in those years' and conversational phrases like 'If we discuss' or 'If we compare.' Paragraphing is not utilized to separate different trends or group the data logically, making the flow disjointed. To improve, the writer must ensure a logical sequence of ideas, use standard academic transitional phrases to guide the reader, and divide the response into appropriate paragraphs, such as an introduction with an overview and separate body paragraphs for specific activity groups.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'tables' instead of 'graph', 'reacged' instead of 'reached', and 'Amature dramtics' with spelling errors. The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary like 'decreased badly' or 'highest range', but these lack precision and natural collocation. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, use more precise terms for describing statistical changes (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'plummeted', 'surged'), and eliminate spelling mistakes that can cause difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors in complex formations. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb tenses, articles, and prepositions, such as 'participants in a five activities', 'social center in melbourne, Austrailia', and 'its started near 18 and reacged at 50'. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, and punctuation is basic. To achieve a higher band, the student must incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage, and ensure accurate tense consistency when describing past data.
