Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, presenting a rudimentary overview of the chart without fully or accurately summarising the main trends. The student attempts to report data for various activities, such as stating that 'about 15 participants enjoyed playing table tennis' in 2000, but the overall presentation lacks a clear structure and misses significant long-term shifts. Key trends, such as the dramatic increase in table tennis participation or the steady dominance of the film club, are generalized or inaccurately described, as seen in the sweeping claim that 'all of these numbers of participants remain same during all these years exept few changes'. Furthermore, the idea development is limited and under-developed, relying on vague descriptions rather than precise figures from the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text displays some basic organisation, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure guiding the reader through the data. The response is divided into very dense blocks of text that lack proper paragraphing, making the progression difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are largely inadequate, repetitive, or inaccurate; words like 'however', 'exept', and 'like' are misused or overused as basic connectors without establishing clear relationships between clauses or sentences. Additionally, referencing is frequently unclear, with pronouns and transitional phrases failing to link ideas smoothly, resulting in a somewhat disjointed reading experience.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The student attempts to use topic-related terms like 'participants', 'activities', and specific pastimes, but frequently misspells words or uses incorrect word forms, such as 'exept', 'activites', 'tannis', and 'musicial'. There is also a lack of precision in describing statistical trends, relying on basic phrasing rather than varied lexical items appropriate for an academic report. To improve to a higher band, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, improve spelling accuracy, and employ more precise functional language for data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple or poorly linked clauses. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to run-on sentences and grammatical breakdown, as observed in the long, unpunctuated sentence starting with 'all of these numbers of participants remain same'. Frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles cause difficulty for the reader throughout the text. For example, phrases like 'music performances held' and 'it increases upto 18 participants in 2020 which gradually started increasing' show poor control over tense consistency and clause integration. Improving grammatical accuracy and varying sentence structures are essential steps for advancement.
