Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the graph, and includes relevant comparisons, such as noting that the film club was the most popular activity overall. An overview is present, identifying key trends like the sharp increase in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, some aspects are under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as stating that table tennis became the most popular activity in 2020 when the film club actually maintained the highest figures. The reporting of specific figures is generally adequate, but the lack of precise development in places keeps the response at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs logically. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with repetitive sentence starters (e.g., 'The number of participants of...') and somewhat rigid transitions between ideas. Referencing and progression are adequate to make the overall report followable, but paragraph structures lack the flexibility and smooth flow required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'sharply increased', 'experienced a downward trend', and 'hovered'. There are a few word choice and spelling errors that do not impede communication, such as 'muscial' instead of 'musical' and 'most most popular'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main trends and comparisons, it lacks the precision and flexibility characteristic of a stronger lexical performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over past and present tenses when describing the trends over the twenty-year period. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of participants... have hovered') and prepositional usage ('reached to almost 4 participants'), but these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout the response.
