Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons across the five activities. The overview clearly highlights the dominant position of the film club and the general directions of other categories, such as the upward trajectory of table tennis and musical performances. Key data points are accurately reported, such as musical performances starting at zero and table tennis showing a significant surge by 2020. However, the response tends to over-generalize slightly in places, and some data details could be further extended to fully satisfy the highest tier of task response, ensuring that all minor fluctuations are contextualized within the broader patterns.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout the response. Information is well grouped into paragraphs, starting with a clear introduction and overview, followed by logical body paragraphs detailing specific activities. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as transitional phrases like 'Overall', 'While', and 'Although'. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel slightly mechanical or formulaic, and transitions between sentences could sometimes flow more smoothly to achieve a higher degree of integration characteristic of superior band levels.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'oscillated', 'marginally', and 'downward trend'. There are, however, some slight inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'musical performace' (a spelling slip) and the phrase 'least participated activity', which is not entirely natural. While communication is never impeded, these occasional lexical slips and limited flexibility in phrasing prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over structures such as relative clauses ('which remained at 0 till 2005') and participial phrases ('having started at about 15 people in 2000'). There are some minor grammatical errors and missing articles, such as 'trends of number' instead of 'trends in the number', and 'updward trend' or 'jump of 10'. These errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, showcasing the solid control typical of this level while still falling just short of consistent error-free complex structures.
