Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by selecting some key features and trends from the graph, such as the growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the information provided is sometimes inaccurate or poorly reported; for instance, the student states that martial arts 'remain same through' and film club remained almost the same, whereas the data shows fluctuations. Additionally, the overview is limited, containing several typos and unclear expressions regarding which activities joined later. The selection of data lacks precision, leaving key comparisons under-developed and failing to present a fully clear picture of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into paragraphs, showing some basic organisation with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific trends. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and repetitive sentence structures, such as starting multiple paragraphs with 'Activitys which...'. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, which forces the reader to pause and make connections that should have been signposted more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to trends, such as 'upward trend' and 'sharp decline', but these are marred by noticeable spelling errors, including 'participats', 'significantlly', 'includs', 'whach', 'thos', and 'Activitys'. Word choice is also imprecise in places, such as using 'decay' instead of 'decade' or 'decrease'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the lexical score from rising to the next level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions and faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing prepositions, faulty verb forms such as 'had shown decline' instead of 'showed a decline', and issues with subject-verb agreement like 'activity number of participants have'. Punctuation is also weak, evidenced by the unnecessary space before the comma in 'Melbourne , Australia'. These frequent errors frequently cause difficulty and strain for the reader.
