Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by selecting some main features and making comparisons, but the coverage is partial and lacks clarity in places. While you correctly identify that the film club had the highest participation and amateur dramatics the lowest, your reporting of the data is imprecise. For instance, stating that 'in table tennis slightly number of participants was increased in 2005' captures a general trend, but descriptions of other data points are vague or under-developed. Ideas lack sufficient support from the graph's specific values, and the overall overview is somewhat limited. To move to a higher band, you need to provide a clearer, more comprehensive overview of the main trends and support your statements with more accurate references to the data provided across all categories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The essay is divided into short paragraphs, but the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as the abrupt transitions using 'It is quite evident that' and 'Furthermore, little bite decreased'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs does not guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow which trend is being discussed. To improve, you should ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic, use a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices to link ideas, and build a logical progression from the introduction through the body details to the conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. You attempt some less common items such as 'participants' and 'dramatics', but there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'qactivities', 'liker material arts', 'little bite decreased', and 'njumber'. These errors in word form, spelling, and collocation occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Furthermore, there is a heavy reliance on repeating the same words rather than using synonyms or paraphrasing. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your vocabulary range, learn the correct spelling and collocations of topic-specific words, and use varied terminology to describe trends and changes without relying on repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often faulty, such as 'the line graph illustrates the numbers of participants for different activities at one social center in Melbourne, and Australia measured from 2000-2020'. There are frequent grammatical errors, including incorrect verb tenses ('graph show', 'difference shown'), missing articles, and awkward prepositions. Punctuation and spacing issues are also present, such as 'Overall, the' and extraneous symbols at the end of paragraphs. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate greater control over complex sentence forms, ensure accurate subject-verb agreement and article usage, and significantly reduce basic grammatical errors.
