Student answer (Band 5.5)

This line graph is demonstrating the information on the total individuals whoes take part in various activites at one social center in popular city of Australia, Melbourne during the timeline of 2000 to 2020.

Comphrehensively, it can be monitor that most of the participants join the film club instead of the other clubs. However, most of the activities start from the 2000 instead of the musical performances.

As we already know that majority was joined film club with the average ratio of 65 through out these years. Second place is for the martial arts with the moderate ratio of 35 people. Amateur dramatices did not succeed in maintaining the participants because you can view a clear decline in the ratio down to only 5. Although, there is one superb thing is that table tennis have limited individuals till 2010. After this year, you can clearly see a dramatic enhancement in this activity upto 50 people which is surprising. Lastly, musical performences start in 2005 which was become popular among the people because it start with 0 and reached to 18 by the end of the 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting on the main features and trends across the five activities shown in the graph. The overview captures the dominant status of the film club and correctly notes the starting points for certain activities, which represents the beginning of a summary. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack precision. For instance, the description of amateur dramatics mentions a decline down to 5, but the data indicates it reached 6, and the discussion of table tennis lacks a comprehensive overview of the earlier years before its dramatic rise. While the key comparisons between the categories are attempted, the selection of data is sometimes unevenly developed, keeping the task achievement within the boundary of presenting relevant information with some omissions in extension and support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement, dividing the information into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and a detailed body section. Progression is generally visible as the writer moves from general observations to specific activity trends. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical, relying on repetitive transitional phrases such as 'After this year' and 'Lastly'. Referencing is not always entirely clear, as seen in phrases like 'Second place is for the martial arts', which lacks smooth grammatical integration. Paragraphing is present, but the logical flow between sentences within the body paragraphs could be significantly improved to ensure seamless transitions of ideas and data points throughout the report.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main trends and changes in the graph. The writer attempts some less common lexical items, such as 'dramatic enhancement', 'moderate ratio', and 'popular among the people', but these attempts are often accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. Additionally, there are several noticeable spelling and word formation errors throughout the text, including 'activites', 'Comphrehensively', 'monitor', 'dramatices', and 'performences'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they reflect a limited and somewhat strained control of lexical features that prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of precision and stylistic appropriateness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and introductory dependent clauses, such as 'which was become popular among the people' and 'After this year, you can clearly see'. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('table tennis have', 'musical performences start... which was become'), incorrect verb forms ('whoes take part', 'start from the 2000'), and missing articles. These errors occur regularly across the text and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. The control over complex structures is still developing, resulting in sentences that contain frequent flaws in tense selection, prepositions, and structural patterns.
