Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart, providing an overview of the film club and table tennis, but the information presented lacks clarity and accuracy. For instance, the student states that musical performances 'did not exist for last 2 years' and refers to percentages rather than participant numbers when discussing amateur dramatics and martial arts, misinterpreting the units on the Y-axis. Furthermore, some trends are described incorrectly or unclearly, such as the claim that the film club is the 'popular activity throughout the year.' While the report addresses the task partially, the confusion regarding data points and incomplete coverage of all categories keep it at a restricted level of achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The text suffers from a lack of clear overall progression and logical organisation. The response is presented almost as a single dense block of text with inadequate paragraphing, making it difficult to follow the relationships between ideas. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the abrupt transition 'Conversely, amateur dramatics portray fall...' and 'On the other hand, martial arts exhibit fluctuation ups and downward trends'. Referencing and logical sequencing are weak throughout, leading to a disjointed reading experience where information and ideas are not arranged coherently.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and word formation that occasionally cause strain for the reader. Phrases such as 'most dramtic growth', 'portray fall considerably', and 'substantial rose in working patterns leads towards suged' demonstrate inadequate control of lexical items and collocations. While the student attempts less common vocabulary like 'fluctuated' and 'moderately', inaccuracies in word form (e.g., using 'rose' instead of 'rise', 'suged' instead of 'surged') and inappropriate word choices prevent the response from achieving a higher level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or poorly constructed complex forms. Frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including incorrect verb tenses and forms (e.g., 'illustrates about number', 'did not exist for last 2 years'), missing prepositions, and faulty subject-verb agreement. For example, 'film club demonstrated main factors of participants reveals highest numbers' contains multiple structural breakdowns in a single sentence. These frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control of grammatical rules.
