Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing a clear overview and highlighting key trends across the five categories from 2000 to 2020. The student correctly identifies the film club as the most popular activity and notes the significant rise in table tennis alongside the decline in amateur dramatics. Main features and appropriate comparisons are made, such as observing that table tennis overtook martial arts. However, some ideas and figures lack complete development or contain minor inaccuracies in specific data reporting, such as describing musical performances as introduced in 2005 when the data points to 2010. Overall, the information is well selected and covers the visual data effectively, fitting comfortably within the expected level for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The text demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by a clear overview paragraph, and then detailed body paragraphs examining the specific data. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to connect ideas, such as 'OVERALL', 'NOTABLY', 'IN CONTRAST', and 'THEREAFTER'. While referencing is mostly clear and referencing words like 'RESPECTIVELY' help tie the data points together, some of the transitions and mechanical use of listing data slightly disrupt the natural flow of the writing. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, guiding the reader smoothly through the comparison of trends over the twenty-year span.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used provides an adequate range for the task, allowing the student to successfully describe trends, increases, and decreases using words like 'FLUCTUATED', 'DECLINED', and 'INCREASED DRAMATICALLY'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are accompanied by occasional errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'DIFFRENT', 'DRAMTICS', 'RESPECIVELY', and 'PERFROMANCES'. Spelling errors and minor inaccuracies in collocation prevent the lexical range from achieving higher precision, though communication is never impeded. To reach the next level, the student needs a wider and more flexible range of vocabulary with more accurate spelling and fewer slips in word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over a variety of structures to report data and make comparisons, such as using participial clauses and contrastive connectors. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly missing capitalization in the student's submission format and occasional awkward phrasing in prepositional use or tense consistency, but these errors are infrequent and rarely impede communication. The majority of simple sentences are clear, and the attempts at complex sentence forms are generally successful. To improve further, the writer should focus on greater accuracy in article usage and sentence punctuation to ensure error-free complex structures.
