Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You successfully addressed all parts of the task by presenting an overview of the main trends and selecting key features to report and compare. Your selection of the Film Club, Amateur Dramatics, and Table Tennis covers the most significant movements in the chart. However, some areas are developed more fully than others; for instance, you omitted specific data for Martial Arts and Musical Performances, which limits the completeness of your overview. While your main comparisons between Table Tennis and Amateur Dramatics are clear and well-supported with approximate data, the lack of detail regarding the remaining categories prevents the response from reaching a higher level of achievement. To improve, ensure you briefly touch upon all data categories provided in the visual prompt to achieve a more balanced and comprehensive summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and well-defined body paragraphs. Progression is generally logical, moving smoothly from general trends to specific notable changes. However, cohesion sometimes feels slightly mechanical or repetitive, particularly in how you introduce your points using phrases like "The most noticeable changes occurred in activities such as..." and "Additionally, it is noticeable that...". Referencing is mostly clear, and paragraphs are used sufficiently to group related ideas. To move to a higher band, you could employ a wider variety of cohesive devices and referencing words naturally, ensuring transitions between sentences and paragraphs flow more seamlessly without relying on formulaic introductory phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You used an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as "fluctuations," "dramatic change," and "on the contrary." Your word choices are generally clear and allow communication to flow without difficulty. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as saying "the number of participants in Amateur Dramatics had decreased" (where the simple past tense is more appropriate) and minor phrasing choices like "the biggest decrease in participants given in the graph." To reach a higher standard, aim to incorporate more sophisticated and precise vocabulary, ensuring that less common terms are used with strict awareness of collocation and natural style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

This criterion shows strong control, bridging into higher-level performance by using a mix of simple and complex sentence forms effectively. You successfully handled dependent clauses and comparative structures, such as "where, in Table Tennis, the number of participants increased from 20 to around 55... showing the most dramatic change." There are some minor errors in grammar, such as tense choice ("had decreased" instead of decreased) and occasional punctuation issues, but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure your meaning. To achieve a fully higher band, you would need to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate even finer control over tense consistency when narrating past statistical trends.
