Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main parts of the task by attempting to report overall trends and select features from the chart, such as noting the highest and lowest points for the Film club and amateur dramatics. However, some ideas are under-developed or inaccurately described. For instance, the writer claims the Film club experienced a sharp rise with '40 more participants' between 2010 and 2020, which misinterprets the graph data where the figures rose from 60 to 66. Similarly, details regarding other activities are sometimes vague or poorly linked to the actual numbers. While an overview is attempted, the lack of precision and under-developed comparison across the entire timeline prevents the response from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement and is divided into paragraphs, which helps guide the reader through the various stages of the timeline. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Overall', 'meanwhile', 'for the next five years', and 'in addition'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions like 'It wasnot untill 2005 the Musical performances started...' and run-on structures that obscure the logical progression. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within sentences can be repetitive or cumbersome, reflecting a typical performance at this level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'fluctuating rate', 'resumed decline', and 'significant changes'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, including 'Malbourne' instead of Melbourne, 'hightes', 'increasment rate', 'constrant', 'It wasnot untill', and 'countinued'. These lexical slips and incorrect word forms limit precision and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, keeping the lexical score at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a limited range of structures, with attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. Examples of grammatical errors include missing articles ('at Australian social center'), incorrect verb forms or tenses ('managed to held', 'did that dealt with a drop'), and punctuation errors such as spaces before commas and full stops. Simple sentences are handled with reasonable success, but errors in prepositions and clause structures are frequent and can cause difficulty for the reader, preventing the text from achieving a higher score.
