Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task by reporting information on several activities from the graph. However, the data provided contains significant inaccuracies and misinterpretations. For instance, the writer states that musical performances had 'only zero number of people' and then climbed up to 18, which misreads the initial timeline. Furthermore, figures such as 69 for the film club in 2000 and 29 for amateur dramatics in 2005 do not accurately reflect the visual data. The overview is minimal and fails to clearly highlight the overall trends across the 20-year period, resulting in a response that only minimally addresses the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response is arranged into paragraphs, but information and ideas are not always arranged coherently. The progression from one sentence to the next can feel disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the main trends. While basic cohesive devices such as 'In musical performances' and 'From 2005 to 2020' are employed, referencing is sometimes mechanical and unclear. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structuring of ideas lacks logical flow, which prevents the report from achieving a clearer overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words and phrases to describe data trends, such as 'climb upto', 'drop down', and 'goes up and down'. There are also noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'only zero number of people', 'take in 2000' instead of 'took part', and 'took this activity'. These errors, alongside occasional awkward phrasing, mean the lexical range remains limited and sometimes causes strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical structures used are very limited, consisting mostly of basic sentences with frequent errors. There are notable issues with verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'the number of participants are same', 'number of students estimated', and 'graph also show something important'. Attempts at more complex descriptions often result in faulty structures and awkward phrasing. These frequent errors distract the reader and reflect a weak control of basic grammatical rules.
