Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by identifying and reporting the main trends for all five activities shown in the graph. You provide a general overview in the second sentence, noting that the film club was most popular and amateur dramatics decreased significantly. However, some areas are under-developed or lack precision. For instance, stating that musical performances 'started in 2005' is inaccurate, as the data shows zero participants in 2000 and 2005, with the activity actually beginning between 2005 and 2010. Furthermore, data points such as the martial arts figures are described somewhat vaguely. To reach a higher level, you should ensure all data citations are completely accurate and fully develop the comparisons between the fluctuating trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure by moving from an introduction and overview into body paragraphs detailing specific activities. However, the organization suffers from mechanical and faulty cohesion. Phrases like 'In, the figure' contain unnecessary punctuation, and transitions between sentences can feel disjointed or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'Then the line shows' and 'The amateur dramatics line shows'. Paragraphing could also be managed more effectively by separating the overview clearly from the body details. To improve, work on varying your cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas to maintain a clear progression throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common terms such as 'participants', 'gradually decreases', and 'popular activity'. However, there are notable word-choice and spelling errors that affect precision, such as 'amatuer' (spelling), 'very less' (inappropriate collocation; 'very low' or 'few' would be better), and 'higher participants' instead of 'more participants'. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded. To achieve a higher band, focus on accurate word forms, natural collocations, and refining spelling so that less common vocabulary can be used with greater precision and style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to structure sentences with relative clauses and coordinating conjunctions. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as unnecessary commas ('In, the figure'), subject-verb agreement slips ('participants... decreases'), and article usage issues. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To move up to the next band, you should aim for a higher proportion of error-free sentences when attempting complex grammatical structures, ensuring stricter control over verb tenses, agreements, and punctuation.
