Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features, such as identifying the film club as the most popular activity and noting the inverse trends of amateur dramatics and table tennis. However, some aspects of the data are presented with limited development or slight generalisations, and the overview could be more clearly synthesised. For instance, stating that the number of people in martial arts was approximately the same in 2000 and 2020 misses the intermediate fluctuations that occurred in 2010. While the key comparisons are made and the information is generally accurate, a fully extended discussion of all trends is needed to reach a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical sequence from an introductory sentence to body paragraphs describing individual trends. However, paragraphing is somewhat disjointed and mechanical, with short, isolated sentences at the end of the text that disrupt the flow. Cohesive devices are sometimes used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the abrupt transition 'in contrast , in amateur dramatic a drastic change had been seen after 2010' and the colloquial phrasing 'Musical performances came late in the world'. Referencing is not always clear, and the overall progression lacks seamless links between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'fluctuated slightly', 'drastic change', and 'sharp decline'. However, there are notable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, including spelling errors like 'tennsi' for tennis and missing plurals or incorrect derivations such as 'amateur dramatic'. Expressions like 'came late in the world' and 'incredibly Good participation' are unnatural and reveal limitations in control over style. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the response from achieving a higher mark.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and time markers successfully in places. There are, however, some recurring errors in grammar, punctuation, and mechanics, such as missing capitalisation at the start of sentences ('in contrast', 'participation', 'it was started'), incorrect spacing around punctuation marks, and occasional awkward phrasing in verb structures. While these errors rarely impede communication and the majority of simple sentences are clear, the frequency of punctuation slips and minor structural inaccuracies keeps the control at this level.
