Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, presenting an overview and reporting data for the five activities across the period from 2000 to 2020. However, the task is only partially addressed because some details are inaccurate or lack precise comparison. For instance, the writer states that the film club was 'above 60' in 2020 (when it was actually 66) and misinterprets the fluctuations or trends for several categories. The development of ideas remains somewhat limited and mechanical, with a tendency to list points rather than fully integrate comparisons. To move to a higher band, the response needs to ensure greater accuracy when reporting specific data points and develop clearer, more comprehensive overviews of the overall trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation present in the response, beginning with an introduction that paraphrases the prompt, followed by body sentences detailing specific trends, and a concluding sentence. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the text is not properly paragraphed, appearing as one large block with an isolated concluding sentence. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, relying on basic transitions like 'Among these' and 'These are the some highlited trend'. Referencing can also be unclear, making it occasionally difficult to follow the logical flow between ideas. Achieving a higher band requires dividing the text into logical paragraphs and using a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe general trends and categories such as 'line graph', 'participants', and 'activities'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'diffrent', 'center', 'highlited', 'filim', 'stil', 'imbalance', 'flactuating', 'dramatices', and 'Tabel tenis'. These errors reflect a lack of control over less common vocabulary and spelling conventions, occasionally causing difficulty for the reader. To reach the next level, the student must expand their lexical range and eliminate frequent spelling and word-form errors by carefully proofreading their work.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few basic attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The most imbalance activites was...'), missing articles ('at social center'), incorrect prepositions ('participate for'), and tense inconsistencies. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and impede the clarity of the message. A higher band requires a better mix of simple and complex sentence forms, improved control over basic grammar rules such as singular and plural agreements, and significantly fewer errors overall.
